# What Age Is Best for Newborn Photos?
One of the questions I get asked the most is, *"When should we book our newborn photos?"*
The short answer? **The ideal time is when your baby is between 5 and 14 days old.**
Those first two weeks are a little bit magical. Babies are usually still very sleepy, naturally curl up into those adorable newborn poses, and are happy to settle after a good feed. That's when we can safely create those timeless, cosy images everyone falls in love with.
But here's something every new parent should know...
**If your baby is already older, don't panic.**
I photograph babies of all ages, and every stage has its own kind of magic.
### 5–14 Days
This is the classic newborn stage.
Your baby is usually sleepy, loves being wrapped up warm, and still naturally curls into those beautiful poses. If you've been dreaming of those peaceful, sleepy portraits, this is the best time.
### 2–6 Weeks
Your little one may spend more time awake, stretching, and looking around the room.
Instead of trying to recreate those tiny curled-up poses, we simply embrace who they are at this stage. We focus on cuddles, little yawns, curious eyes, tiny fingers wrapped around yours, and all those precious family moments.
These lifestyle-style images are every bit as meaningful.
### Older Newborns
I often hear parents say, "I think we've missed our chance."
You really haven't.
Your baby is never too old to be photographed. Every week they change, and every stage deserves to be remembered. Some of my favourite galleries have been with older babies who gave us beautiful eye contact, sweet smiles, and the biggest personalities.
### When Should You Book?
The best time to book your newborn session is actually **during your pregnancy**, ideally after your 20-week scan.
Don't worry—we don't choose the exact session date until your baby arrives. I simply reserve space around your due date, and once your little one is here, we'll find the perfect day together.
That way you don't have to worry about missing out while you're busy settling into life with your new baby.
### A Little Advice From One Mum to Another
As a mum myself, I know those first few weeks are a blur.
You're tired, learning something new every day, and suddenly your tiny baby is already changing.
Those little fingers, flaky feet, sleepy stretches, and tiny expressions won't stay little for long.
One day, these photographs won't just be pictures.
They'll be memories of a time that disappeared far too quickly.
